Tried for perch out front of the ditch for an hour then tried East of the donut for an hour without a single bite. Water was extremely cloudy. Set 3 lines and trolled diue north from the donut. Picked up 1 decent laker when I hit 65 fow, suprise was that he hit a thin fin on a flat line. Fished from 11 am to 3, dead flat lake.

Interesting that is the second report recently of a large laker hitting close to the top. Hey no skunk and a day out in the boat sounds like a good day to me :).

Over the years I've caught many lakers on lures near the surface. It's certainly not a "go-to" presentation, but always a nice surprise when you are expecting a three pound coho and a 13 pound trout crashes the party. They pull pretty good, too, since their air bladder doesn't expand as oft happens dragging them up from the depths.
