With nearly a week off due to weather woes and scheduling, I was glad to get out yesterday. I went back to the Indiana Shoals but instead of stopping short and trolling north I started near the IL/IN line and trolled south. First thing I noticed was the water was cold! Last time out it was 51 degrees at the surface. It was 44 degrees. Once I stopped it was really strange looking. Almost "swimming pool" blue and clear as tap water.

The north winds had changed the water column. Made me start thinking of alternate places to fish since new, sterile water is often fishless. Trolled for an hour heading southwest, the water became a bit more green and caught our first fish (a laker). Another half mile south the water improved and it got pretty busy. One laker short of the limit, a bonus coho and the sun pouring down through a perfectly flat lake. Scored one last trout and called it a day.

Good to be out on a nice day. Not many of those available this spring. Hopefully just paying dues for a great summer season.
