Looking for opinions and options as to the way everyone else attaches a fluorocarbon leader to monofilament main line. I recently purchased some 25# Blood Run Tackle Mono in Hi Vis Orange and Hi Vis Yellow and was thinking of using it for my planer board reels and maybe even backing on my lead core rods. The question being, should I use a swivel such as a Spro size 6 or 8 to attach a 10-15' section of flouro to the mono? Or just use a knot such as a uni to uni or Alberto knot for attaching the leader? I use the uni to uni knot all the time for braid to fluoro leaders when vertical jigging walleye up north but I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to have a swivel between the two when trolling to help prevent line twist.

I may be way overthinking this but the last 2 years I've run inline planer boards and this year I'll be running a planer mast system and want the Hi Vis lines to help keep tangles from happening as easily. Although some will argue that fluoro isn't as great as some claim it to be, I've had good success with my Seagur 25# leaders and don't want to deviate to far from that. Thanks in advance for any comments or advice. Nick

50lb spryo swivels have always worked well for me. They are super small and fit through rod tips and reels.

I use a small 80# Spro barrel type swivel to join my braid to the F.C. Saves tying a few knots in the future when replacing the FC line. I use uniknots to tie both lines to the swivel. I use a #2 or 3 ball bearing coastlock swivel on the business end of the FC.

Jeff, are you still using a swivel in between your main line and the leader?

Thank you. I haven't used swivels yet either. I can see the benefit to adding a swivel when adding a leader on my my long leadcore lines. But I've always just used a uni to uni knot for leaders on mono or braid. I'll look into the double uni as well.

by double uni I do mean uni to uni. I dont see any need to add a swivel to be honest.
