Just curious what length leader most are using on dipseys. I have been using about 10 ft. What is the preferred length with spoons, dodgers and body baits? Thanks.

I would generally say the longer the better, but that makes landing fish more difficult. I run mine in the 8-10' range. It does require hand lining fish in usually. I will also note that I have used plenty of 4-6' leaders that caught fish a plenty as well. All depends on how aggressive or not the fish are.

i'm in a 17.5' boat - the longest leader I run is 7' but generally off the dipsy I run 4 but it depends if I am running a spoon, fly, etc

I run 4-6' leaders most of the time.

I run 10’-12’. When the diver is almost to the rod tip I have the person fighting the fish walk backwards to the bow for netting but this may or may not be possible depending on your boat.

I’m very similar to pikesmith. I run 9 feet to the spoon or flasher. When I’m running meat rigs total length from the diver to the hook is approx 13 feet long.

I have short ones and long ones made up and will use the long ones if I have an experienced crew. If I’m with the wife and kids I’ll use the shorter leader. The long leaders probably get more hook-ups but that is only good if you have the necessary third hand to pull the fish into the net.

I make them as long as the rod they will be on. Usually have no issues with dipsey action.
