Gonna give the Sam's Pro style releases with the OR16 clips on the back a shot after watching this Russell's Fishing Tech video (Angler's Avenue / The Real Shot / Salmon Candy / Russel Gahagan).

I bought Church Walleye boards when I first started fishing LM, and added some TX-44's when I got to long coppers and cores. The stock tow arm releases worked fine for mono backer and the short cores I started out with. When I switched to braid backer and added long cores / coppers for offshore fishing, the answer to stop the board from sliding down the line was to wrap around standard release multiple times or switch to the lockjaw releases (I eventually went with the lockjaws). Both of these methods rendered the board "un-releasable" so it's always reel in with the tip down pointed at the board when a fish is on until the board gets to the boat. Never bothered me, but newbies and old timers used to skis alike have a hard time following instructions, so it often times ends up with a diving board and sometimes with tangles or a lost fish...

I know a lot of folks are satisfied just splicing in a section of mono between the copper / lead and the backer to attach the board to. I am not a fan of putting extra points of failure in to a line, especially when those knots could be going in and out of the metal level wind mechanism multiple times during a fish on scenario. The standard releases were slipping on mono as it was before I switched to braid backer anyways.

Going to retro fit my Church boards to try it out. Hoping this setup will be a more enjoyable experience. Anybody use this setup on their boards (any brand)? How do you like it?

Nice. I was told they didn't hold for shit on braided line even though they advertised they did. No issues?

I have some new stuff coming out soon I'll get you one to try out if you want I've been playing around as a hobby developing a new board line last couple years . The retail product release is coming soon as well. I have typical OR style releases with and without pins or my own downrigger style release that I've been playing with this spring or you can run whatever release you want on my boards and for walleye guys I have a patented magnetic release as well that I might offer as a tow arm system as well. See you on the lake soon. Zoom in to see the releases. I also have mounting clips to aid in storing the boards or like I did for my boat I made a handy overhead cabin storage rack
