Anyone read/hear about BP in Whiting responsible for negligently dumping huge amounts of waste pollution in the lake last week. Was discovered they been dumping 5x allotted amount and had an excessive spill. Does this piss you off or what...absolutely unacceptable!!

Here is a link to the story about the spill.

A troubling quote from the article...
"The BP Whiting Refinery’s discharge permits, which also allow BP to discharge 1,036 pounds of ammonia per day into the lake, have been a controversial issue. "

1000 pounds of ammonia a day seems like a large amount to me.

Quick conversion for liquid ammonia.

1000 lbs Is almost 200 gallons per day.

I will say that a buddy who is currently working at BP told me about this. As we left Pastrick on Thursday afternoon there was what looked like a dark band of water along the Inland break wall running west to east with the current. Maybe 30-40 yards wide. Not sure what it was but the info from BP first came to mind...
