Saw these in the ditch today and in portage marina. This one was dieing off, swimming in circles. Probably around a pound and a half. Ended up making meat strips for meat rigs from him.

Sure looks like it. There were always schools of them in the discharge at BP when I fished there. Casting for fall kings at night at the hole in the wall would be loaded with them too. Turn on the headlamp and see schools darting all around the boat.

I believe that is a gizzard shad. Let me know how the salmon like them, I see them all the time up the ditch and it would be easier to get than sardines lol.

I caught one before with a minnow in the mouth when the lake was too rough a few years ago.

Kingme is correct, it's a gizzard shad.

American shad are ocean dwelling and make big spawning runs up the east coast rivers.

I tried making some meat rig strips out of them a couple years ago but never had much luck on them.

Great catfish bait though!
