Saturday afternoon, I trolled around the Portage inlet looking for perch schools and hoping for a Steelhead. I came across what looked like a large source of bubbles biking up to the surface about a half mile from the breakwater. I got a video of it and have yet to find anyone who has seen such a thing. Has anyone seen this before? It went on for quite a while after I noticed it.

Trying to get a link to the video to appear...

I have seen something similar in the past a few times, always wondered what it was.

For the video link to appear, is it youtube? if so just copy and paste the link in the message body and it will auto embed.

I believe Arcelor Mittal has a intake pipe that's about 3000 feet out from the Port, which is give or take about half a mile. So that is a probable source, especially if the bubbling was confined to a relatively small area. Maybe backflushing, treating for mussel buildup, or doing something with it that would cause bubbles to come out.

Looks like it might be a discharge pipe to me. The intake piping I would not think would leave a visible current at that depth. I actually seen it working my last trip up. I wished I would have marked it as a waypoint on my fishfinder. Might be a fish magnet in early spring fishing or winter fishing.

I saw it too! I'm with MC-Angler - back flushing the intake pipe. Just a guess.

Could be Russian submarines. Or Canadians - those Canadians aren't real happy with us right now. Could be the Maple Syrup tarriff.

Thanks, guys! I kept waiting for the Nautilis to surface, but no luck. It was certainly something interesting to see and a little freaky just because you don't see it often.

I'm wishing I had gotten the coordinates as well, but I'll definitely keep the location in mind.
