I found my bullet that killed my doe while butchering it this weekend. It is a .452 dia. Hornady SST. It was lodged between its spine and a shoulder blade. I laid it off to the side and finished the job and did not mess with it until later on when I went back to clean up the mess. I picked it up and wiped some of the gore off of it and something caught my eye. I wiped some more off and a backwards number 57 is showing in the lead core of the bullet. I don't know how or why there would numbers in the middle of a hunting bullet.

Nope I have not seen anything like that. I just looked at a couple of my .44 mag used slugs and I don't see any numbers. I'd send the pic to Hornady as Lickety-Split suggested. It might be interesting to hear what they say.

I talked to a Hornady rep the other day about the numbers. He says the plastic tipped bullets have tips that have numbers molded into the bottom side of the tip stem. I my case the tip was pushed back into the lead core enough to cause expansion of the core but not fragment it. The result was the molded number was stamped in to lead core and it survived enough to be still visible. He thought it was an odd occurrence. And here I was thinking of all kinds of government overreach.

Hope the lib-tards don't see this. It will end up being a new way of "marking" our ammo.
