Reminder: GLSI Meeting @ Jays Sporting Goods Saturday March 2nd 2pm to 5pm
On Feb 6, the L. Huron Citizens Advisory Council and the L. Huron Salmon and Trout Sub-committee met to discuss Lake Trout creel limit regulations in MH-1 and MH-2 and possible effects on 2020 Consent Decree negotiations. Coho planting locations in Lake Huron. What possible ports, based on angler access, economic impact, survivability, predation and return fishery.
This meeting is your time to ask questions and give input on our fisheries and subjects like these on Lakes Huron and Michigan. Also get to know the GLSI and how we are representing your interests.
Currently we have interest from both L. Huron and Michigan Basin management teams to attend to listen and answer questions on Great Lakes management. Also we have invited a commercial fisher to give their perspective on the resource and the differing opinions of the commercial fishers and sport community.
We are currently working on a solid agenda and are taking input on what you would like to discuss on what is important issues to you. Tell us what you would like to hear about.
Picture shown are net pens being put in place for Coho in Ludington Big Sable River in 2017. The resulting returns and fishery in the fall of 2018 was a tremendous success and we are looking forward to the same opportunity on Lake Huron. The Huron plant this year is the first coho stocks since 1989 and what we learn from this could impact management perspectives long term.
