TOPIC:

This was a day of mixed emotions.
Decided to take a trip to south bend for some smallmouth action and maybe a walleye with my dad and son. Launched the boat and the main motor battery was toast. Used the electric motor battery to start, put the cables back to the main motor battery and went up river from the launch. Didn't get as far up as I wanted too since the river was on the low side and ultra clear. 
On the drift down just before the first bridge i saw a dark salmonoid silhouette in the shady side of the river lazily moving up, pretty cool in crystal clear 3fow.
Worked the downriver side of the bridge and got snagged in a log. Trying to free the crankbait I ended up dropping the rod intro an 8ft hole. Could totally see the rod handle and reel but the current made staying on it with the electric motor and snagging it impossible and all my casting rods were around 6ft. A last ditch effort I had my dad with the main motor pull me up and I used my pushpole to try and snag it. Inches away I pulled a hail Mary and let go of the pole and held the lanyard, success! 
Drifting downriver after that ordeal I put a heddon torpedo on my son's rod and decided to help my son with technique. Cast and wait, jerk, jerk, jerk, wait, then pull it in. 
 
Made the cast for him, he did as I taught him and hooked up and fought this 18" bass, my dad netted it. Great time, great memories! 
Now comes my piercing. After Drifting a short while and catching a quite a few smallies on that torpedo I casted into a bit of slop. First snap to pop it out and it bee lined to my head! Didn't hurt but needless to say fishing was done for the day.

Did you push it on through for removal? Luckily I haven't had that happen in all my years of fishing...knock on wood. Brother took a j-plug hook to the thumb once up in Ludington when we were fishing up there...ER had to take care of that one.

Had to take a trip to urgent care, hook went in and down. Doc had to cut the hook then push it down through the bottom of my ear. I don't think anyone on the boat was interested in doing that haha!

Some good and bad memories on that one, thanks for sharing though. I bet he had a blast catching that fish and that is what its all about.

Bob, honestly when it happened I didn't feel anything. I could feel the weight of it but no pain, bottom hook free swinging around my jugular disturbed me more!
