Over the years , I have replaced the Safety Flares , as they expire . Now I have a little pile of expired flares . What would be the proper requirements for disposal of said flares ? Does the USCG have a suggested method ? What have other people done to dispose of them .  I'm thinking it's NOT A GOOD THING to just toss them in the garbage , to be dumped in a landfill .

Keep a few extra for back up. I also keep a few expired ones in my inland lake boat.
