Took a trip to Mishawaka where my dad lives to fish for smallies. Fished the stretch from the hydroelectric dam to the Mishawaka dam casting crankbaits. Smallies weren't very abundant but the rock bass were ticking the rod tip about every other cast. Some were pretty good sized so they went in the livewell, overall 24 keepers with a lot getting tossed back. While not a monster by any means my dad got himself his first muskie after years of having them break off while bassin.

On a side note, talked to a local bass fisherman and heard about the negative effects of slot limits on the river bass. I was shocked to hear about weigh ins with 5-12" or smaller bass. The few bass we caught were in the slot and got tossed but we barely were able to find any fish under the slot unlike years past when we would have a blast catching a ton of smaller bass.

Nice mess of rock bass! They get a bad rap, they taste pretty darn similar to other panfish and are abundant and aggressive. I used to let them go all the time, now I throw them in with the rest of the gills and crappies when out panfishing

Btw that's a northern pike :)

Thanks Ben for the help IDing the fish, I wasn't 100% sure. The red tail and more bar markings vs the spotted markings threw me off from some of the other pike I've caught. Well time to tell my dad he needs to get back at it!:silly:
