My wife and I shot out to Huron Ohio for a 1 1/2 days of fishing. We were hoping the walleye had moved into that area but water is warm and not many walleye had moved in, not in any numbers. Still caught a few smaller ones which we let go and a ton of white bass.
We took a ride all the way over to the split between South Bass and Kelly's Island to see what was happening in that part of the lake. It was a long run from Huron but the lake was like a mill pond.

As we came around the west side of Kellys we could see a very large group of boats so we trolled over in that direction. To are surprise everyone was fishing for perch. We didn't bring any perch gear and we could of cried. There was one solid school of perch that was around 4-6feet thick on the bottom and they covered at least a 800 acre area. We have never seen perch like that it was really cool. This fall has been a good season for the perch fishermen out there. Lake Erie hold approx. 6 times what Lake Michigan does in perch. We came home on thursday and rode with the caravan of CUB FANS all coming home. Way cool.

Should be a couple of weeks yet for the walleye bite to open up in Huron. Water was 59 degrees still.

Thanks for the info. I'd like to squeeze a trip in over that way this fall depending on how late it takes our perch to turn on.

Forgot to mention, Cranberry Creek Marinas ramp is not usable. The highway bridge is under big repair and they have the ramp blocked off. I don't think it will be done by winter. That highway is blocked off on both sides of the bridge, but can still enter Craneberry from the west to purchase fishing gear, but ramp is completley blocked until bridge repair is done.

We stay at a house thats just a mile or so down the road from Craneberry but, because of the construction work, had to make a big circle back to the south and then west to come into Huron, and use the city ramps. There still is dredge work going on out in front of Huron just as you enter into the lake.

A cooler full of white bass is a darn good consolation prize. I would be very happy with that. Maybe on the next trip you will tear into them. Deer hunting going okay?
