It's been years since I took my boat to Lake Erie. Stayed on South Bass Island, fished three days caught plenty of walleyes. As always, the trip made me thankful that we have salmon instead of walleye in Lake Michigan.
Ever heard anyone on Lake Michigan say, "What do you think? Is there are fish on that line? or, when winding in a crankbait "Oh look, there's a walleye on it! I thought it was just the lure."
But even for a non-drinker, Put-In-Bay is a fun town, great atmosphere, interesting history. Now it's time to get back after the salmon.

I was at Erie 3 weeks ago and we did pretty well but yes there were a few times that I was like - hmmm think there is a fish on there and a few times there was. Also a few times pulled in a line to find a walleye on it. This year I went to using the big boards which made it more fun bringing the Walleye in; in line boards that was all you felt. Not that I havent had a shaker coho early spring do that but I agree its nothing like a nice salmon hit. Now with that being said I am heading back to Erie this weekend since I just do not want to deal with the Memorial day pleasure boaters around this area and where I go out of at Erie, it shouldn't be horrible. Now if I can just get the weather to cooperate with me.

We launch right by the stack - I am heading there this weekend and if I can get out, I will PM you and let you know how we did.

We use the stack as our signal to go back to camp when there is weather in the area. When we can no longer see the stack we pull lines and get going. Seems to be the perfect distance from South Bass for our sign.

What happened to all the gaspergoos in Lake Erie? Used to be they added spice and variety to the catch and kept you busy between walleye bites. We only caught one (when we were ducking the gale force winds nearshore one afternoon). None out on the "walleye grounds". Always looked forward to the poor man's shrimp and lobster we cooked up for hor - divers in the evening with the sheep-meat. Not even one!

We usually try to fish erie in the spring or fall for the trophy fish. However, we went out in the summertime a few years ago and had great success. We got our limit of walleye but also had constant action of white bass plus lots of big good fighting sheep. You must have been in the wrong pastures bronature... ha

Oh they are there. We caught like 5 or 6 along with some white bass and one small perch - ended up with 18 good eating size eyes over the weekend.

We only caught one goo the entire week. Pictures is a typical catch. We caught some casting weight forward spinners with. Crawler. Most came trolling spoons. It’s on fire over there. Lots of fish!!
