Out walking the dog and wild flowers are popping up everywhere. One of my bud's sent a pic of a boss tom breeding a hen in his lot. The little flowers are called "dutchmen's britches". If you blow up the turkey pic you can see a fat double beard!

Nice pic's Don.

Should be some mushrooms popping up down there. :cheer: They started getting them in southern Illinois.

A little follow up on this post. I went looking for some morels Saturday. Found very few in the area I was in. I did find something disturbing though I found a turkey nest raided already. The whole clutch was eaten.

Maybe a moderator can remove the failure notices for me.

Unfortunately there are no hard fast rules to where they are it seems. I look for them in well shaded woods where there are high presence of gum, sycamore, and elm trees. There has to be rather loose soils that are damp. I find 99% of mine in old strip mined grounds in the spoil hills. Usually near the bottoms of the spoils but I have found them on the tops before. I look at south facing slopes and west facing slopes first to find them.
Until you get 60 to 70 degree nights they will be hard to find. They grow at night and need the temp, moisture. and right soil type to grow. You can find them around dead fallen trees with broken leaf cover on the ground. Around may apple patches are good places to look when they come up. Good luck finding some. You just have to cover the ground to find them. If the morels are out so are the ticks. Bring your permitherin spray with you.
