With a 3 or 4 day winter monsoon bearing down on me down here I thought it was go today or wished you had. Had a strong south wind and 50 degree temps it was not ideal conditions. Still things turned out good after all.
Roxie and I drove to TNT Hunting in southern Illinois and got a dry field to hunt with plenty of of cover. Had 10 quail released and I turned the machine loose on them. I went 11 for 10 on the birds. The first 9 were 1 shot kills. The last bird was a runner that was hard to corner. Roxie locked up on it finally, we went in for the flush the bird flew in my face and I missed the shot. Seen it land and we cornered it again. This time it flew away from me and it paid for it. I was feeling pretty good about myself up until that last bird.
I almost feel sorry for the birds sometimes. They get pointed at, shot at, and then they have to deal with Roxie. I don’t know how I got lucky to have had 2 hunting dogs that were and are great dogs. Shorthair pointers rule!
