Got away for a couple of hours today on a public strip pit to take some bluegills home. Caught about 30 or so and kept 13 nice ones and one slab crappie. Garden worms fished on a 1/32 oz jig on 6 pound test and an ultralight spinning rod. I was bottom bouncing the worm through a spawning bed to get them. That was fun and I know the sandwiches will be delicious. Here is a pic.

Real nice Don. I tried willow slough friday for some of those myself, my success rate was not as good as yours however. Great catch and some tasty treats!

Nice catch Don, my wife & I headed east to north central Indiana. We had a real nice weekend. Fished Saturday & Sunday with Saturday being the best day. The crappies were showing off their dress blacks & ready to party if you know what I mean. Had 9 nice gills up to 10" and a lonely white bass for fun. Sunday was much slower. The sun was bright & we ended that day with 9 crappies & no others. But a real nice couple days.

Nice box of crappie. I had several good trips my self. Caught good numbers but smaller size. Just now I am running into big crappie. Going again Wednesday and Friday. There are some state run pits down here that have great pan fishing but poor bass fishing. There are a few pits that are huge and have good bass but the crappie and gills are poor. Myself I prefer to pan fish.

Sounds like my old fishing areas. I used to love the pits in Universal, and Shakamak and Greene Sullivan SRA had some big crappie and gills. I used to live in Terre Haute and the Brazil area and the fishing around there was great - but salmon almost ruined me and I moved north. As I get older I appreciate the nice relaxing panfish trips a little more.

It almost sounds you suffer the same fishing affliction as me. My only regret is learning about salmon fishing so late in my life. Would have been great to see the lake in its prime.

Hi -

I'm thinking of fishing Willow Slough this weekend.  I know the weeds get bad quickly there and deep boat is useless.  Anyone know the current weed condition?

Thanks

Was there a couple weeks ago and seemed like it was getting pretty choked.
I can only imagine the growth in the heat the last week or so. Not that familiar with the lake however, maybe this is the norm

Nicely done, Steelie D.
As for “retirement money”, I’d look at it as an investment in ‘healthy eating.’ BTW, great pic.
