Anyway to add a reel fill calculator? Used to be able to find one that would help calculate backing, desired line, and leader lengths to fill reels. Can’t find it now.

The Reel Fill Calculator is built on online. On the main menu of this site, it is under "Resources". Here is a direct link: www.thesouthend.org/index.php/resources/reel-fill-calculator

Let me know your thoughts / ideas for any improvements guys.

Thanks

Thanks Jeff! Now I don't have to dig out that spread sheet every time!

One possible suggestion would be to add a second backing field. Depending on application, sometimes X yds mono, X yds braid, then core line, then leader...

Not really a big need as you can just ignore the leader amount as it's typically only 25 or 50 ft. and calculate the additional backing in it's place.

Its a pretty good idea Sean. It certainly adds another level of complexity. I will consider adding it but am hesitant. Let me think about this one for a while.

Spooled up several reels with weighted steel and copper over the weekend. It works really well!! However, I would shoot for 86-87% capacity!! 100% is literally 100% and not usable.
Great tool to have.

I would agree. Leave some margin of error.

Hey - I just emailed you some detail, but ultimately you have to input the reel nameplate information, then the diameter lines you want to use, and then your lengths.  You basically mess with your backer diameter and length until you get the reel fill percentage that you want.  Usually 90-100%.
