What is the north wind going to do to the fish and water temps? Is it worth a trip up from Lafayette this weekend? It looks like the winds will shift around to the SE/S by the weekend, but with strong NE winds and 8 ft waves predicted for two days I'm wondering what that will do.

I gather there is a tourney on Saturday? Out of Portage or MC? Is that something to avoid?

Any help appreciated.

Hard to say what it will do - all depends where the water temps end up. Also yes we are having a tourney on Saturday out of Portage. Certainly nothing to avoid - if anything join in. I guarantee by the weigh in everyone will know where the fish are lol.

If your interested in possibly joining the tournament field check the tournament forum for the registration form. its a fun good time - more of a bunch of guys getting to know each other and going out fishing for the day with some competitiveness thrown in. its fun.

Dirty,
Thanks for the info. I don't have any partners this weekend as they all have other obligations. Otherwise I would join the tourney. Sounds like a good time. I may come up Sunday or Monday for a shakedown run. Haven't been on LM in the past couple of years. I spend more time on Lake Erie these days, but the chance for Kings and cohos is compelling!
Good luck to all!

I wish I could jump in the mix on Saturday, but I have to work. I get two weekends off a month, and Mother Nature sacked my plans for salmon fishing both weekends off in August. Looks like my only chance to get out this holiday weekend will be Monday, and I'm trying to decide whether to head NW to Lake Michigan or NE to Lake Erie. I'm just about dead in the middle between both.

My prediction is that fishing should be good - lots of cold water close to shore, some recent rain pumping out the tributaries into the lake, and tribs are still a little on the warm side. Perfect recipe for staging salmon

And the weather looks absolutely PERFECT for the weekend

People have been catching kings and coho from shore, so you know the fish are around

Im hitting harbor patrol hard tomorrow a.m. in st joe. Cranks, plugs, a flasher or 2 and trolling slower than usual. Ive always had best luck trolling slower during harbor patrol.

Hey Tim, how do you run your plugs when fishing them if you don't mind sharing?? Have never really messed with them but from what I have read it sounds like plugs are Best for staging kings.

Jplugs off riggers, dipseys, boards all work well. Try different sizes and colors. Usually staging fish and plugs is a slower troll. No need to run super long leads either. Your not trying to be sneaky, more so trying to agitate them to strike.

Thanks for the info Tim. I have the same problem! Lol Might not be a bad idea to throw out 1 or 2 of those glowberry spoons if you have any. Has been are hot spoon all year. Course it's been about 3 weeks sense I've been out so who knows but that's what I'll be starting with tomorrow evening out of portage. Can never go wrong with the good old flounder pounder either. GL tomorrow morning bud!
