I installed a X-4 Fisk Hawk and used it for the 1st time yesterday and as soon as the breakaway cable felt the weight of the cannon ball it broke in the middle. The cannon ball was lowered by hand until the breakaway cable was tight and after letting go of the ball the cable broke. The company said it is strange that it broke in the middle, usually the cable breaks at the ends, they are sending me a new one. I did some research on the internet and found some use a snubber instead of the breakaway cable. Any recommendations or thoughts.

I have always use the cable and never had an issue. Sounds like a mfg defect to me.

Mine broke also. I just made a new one out of rigger cable and I also replaced the Fish Hawk One and have it on the boat but I don’t use it. I don’t bottom fish with the probe rigger so I feel the gamble using the rigger cable is pretty safe. Maybe someday I’ll be posting that I wish I had used the weaker Fish Hawk cable but I wasn’t impressed when it broke in the ball holder.
