I been fishing with wire divers for a long time(10 plus years) without failure. Thread a large bead onto the wire first. Second run the wire thru a large snap swivel. 3rd carefully tie an overhand knot without kinking the wire (don't be in a hurry). I try to minimize the distance between the knot and "loop" of the snap swivel. 4th trim the tag and slide the bead over the knot. The bead protects the knot and loop in the wire (minimizing cold working of the wire).

The key is inspecting the knot and retying as needed during the season. When retying strip 10 feet or so of wire off and scrap it. Generally wire used for trolling is 300 series stainless steel, which is prone to cold working. Cold working equates to brittle.

The video appears to suggest a palomar knot. Great knot for mono, fluorocarbon and braid! Bad knot for wire, too many twists and turns.

Hope this helps!

Okay, this experiment is getting expensive. I have been tying this knot on my wire diver rigs
and I've snapped off twice now. So I've lost dipsy, snubber, paddle, and lure...... Does anyone do anything different, I know some people crimp what size crimps work with blood run 7 strand wire? Are there other knots that don't weaken the break strength?

I do exactly what is shown in the video but overhand knot after that and have not yet had an issue. Probably a number of great ways to get this done I imagine.

I use the same knot. I do slide a bead on the line first but I don't know if it really helps. I inspect the knot daily and retie as needed or every few trips. Very, very seldom lose the diver et al. Use the wire divers every trip starting early May through August.

I use the same knot also including the bead. Never had a problem with break offs. I also use a small section of tubing from an old dipsey(1" or so) between the knot and the bead- it seems to keep the wire line "kinking" down to a minimum and works well when breaking down the rods at the end of the day. Just my 2 cents.
