Don't know how many folks fish the tribs on this forum, but people have been catching a few skamania here and there for a few weeks now

Shore anglers have been getting them at the MC pier and at the mouth of the Ditch.

Trail Creek was 62 this morning and there were a decent number of fresh fish at the barrier and above

Probably a few fish up the Little Cal and Salt Creek too

Big push of fish this morning... 110 steelhead, 2 browns, and this wayward king in the lamprey barrier

At least a half-dozen of the skams cracked 13 pounds, one was probably over 15. A lot of 8-10 pounders

Usually we see one or two in July.

I've never seen one myself in June.

Couple Michigan rivers get early runs, especially the Little Manistee, as a result of their weir operation. Pretty cool natural (or unnatural in some ways I guess) selection in action - they operate the weir beginning in early to mid August, so any chinooks that reproduce naturally in the river are the ones that run early before the weir blocks them.

So over time the successful wild reproduction of early-running fish has led to a decent run in July and early August

The better condition the fish are, typically are years in which we see earlier runs. Takes a lot of energy to make eggs and milt, so fat healthy fish are in a better position to run early.

This was from last week. I've only been out a couple times, but there are some quality fish around this year.
