Went for a couple hours last night after work. Opted to go to Karwick since it was less crowded than 20. Fished mostly by and under the walking bridge. Saw a good amount of fish, all good size. A few were pretty large. I believe they were all coho based on what has been reported passing through the fish barrier.

If we would have caught one, I would be able to tell you for sure... Tried spawn sacks and a variety of spinners and small spoons, but no hits. Guess they just weren't in the biting mood... Or they just didn't like what we were throwing.

From the few folks we talked to, it didn't sound like anyone was having success down there.

That used to be a great area to fish until they put that ridiculous barrier in. Completely ruined a lot of water that was open to the public.

I've got mixed feelings about the barrier. I don't know how important its is in terms of controlling lamprey's, which is it's stated purpose. It doesnt seem like there's that many around to make it worth the cost and any negative impacts on the fishing. On the other hand, it does give the biologists a good tool for assessing returns to the creek, and I think it can be a big benefit for collecting out fish, especially the skamania, for the hatchery. In terms of "lost water", I did enjoy fishing right where it's at and a couple beds right above it in the past, but I've lost way more good areas to downed trees and shifting sand/mud filling in spots. The last couple years I've had good fishiing on Trail both above and below the weir. I was really down on it the first year or two maybe three after it was built because fishing really sucked, but looking back those were flat out terrible runs and really low water years. I di enjoy sitting out there when the fish are moving and eating lunch or breakfast or just having a cup of coffee and watching the fish, sometimes that alone is worth a 40 minute drive for me. I've been hitting a fish or two in Trail every trip the past week or so. Tonight I fished public water below the weir and hit a badass steelhead and my first stream king of the year, a big bruiser buck that was just starting to bronze over, both on spinners. Sorry didn't get any pics, was alone. When the water is low, having that weir there gives me some extra confidence that there's going to be a couple extra fish in the holes down below it wink wink. I fished the pier for about two hours, nothing going on except for the last of the scantily clad eye candy parade. Did see this little monster when I was walking off
