As dry and boring as this sounds, it's pretty important. The Natural Resource Commission is implementing rule changes and is gathering public comment.

There are two rule changes in particular that might be of interest to Lake Michigan and tributary anglers- both have previously been instituted by emergency rule but are now being added as permanent rules
Amends 312 IAC 9-6-6 to open a section of Trail Creek and the Little Calumet River for fishing year-round. (This eliminates the closures to the creeks, you can fish year-round now. It's been that way for several years, but now will be official)
Amends 312 IAC 9-7-13 to increase the bag limit for lake trout taken from Lake Michigan. (Goes from 2 to 3, was instituted this spring but now will be permanent)
If you have opinions (of course you do, this is the internet!) and want to have them heard by the NRC, here's how to do it:
Go to this link
www.in.gov/nrc/2377.htm
Scroll to the bottom, where you see "FW Biennial Fisheries Amendments" and clink on the blue hyperlinked "COMMENT ON THIS RULE" text
If you support or oppose the lake trout bag increase, or the removal of creek closures, please comment
Comments are generally the most helpful and impactful if they use 1) pleasant tone 2) complete sentences and 3) actually reference the specific rule being proposed 4) say WHY you do or do not support it
