July 3rd 7pm – midnight - Tournament is a GO!.

The outing will only occur if weather conditions are perfect since it is primarily in the dark. This means wind, waves, and cloud cover. If we get close to outing date and the weather looks less than optimal for July 3rd.

This is a gentlemen’s outing. The point is to get together, have fun, and see what we can learn about fishing at night during a full moon and make it a bit competitive while we are at it. The rule set is minimal. An unofficial digital scale from someone’s boat will be used for weighing fish. Results will be posted on thesouthend.org. Split will be carrying the money jug so watch that guy!

Any fish from the trout / salmon family are applicable
Weigh top 5 fish – only 1 may be a lake trout
9 Rods max
$20 per boat - Winner Take All
$20 big fish (optional)
Captains meeting at 6:15pm at Portage Marina on the transient dock
Outing Radio Channel 68
Weigh in at 12:30am
Note: Speed Limit on LM is 10mph after dusk.

Outing Hosts are Dirtyx1, Lickety-Split, Bob (Kelliann), and Tmik34

Indicate your interest and questions in this thread - official registration will be at the Captains meeting.

All status updates will occur in this thread.

If anyone has any questions leading up to the event my cell number is 219-682-5575.

Please print and bring the attached registration form with you to the tournament.

This sounds like a blast. I'm definitely interested and would like to make it over to Portage for this. I'm going to start right now trying to fill the boat for that date. Nick

Unfortunately I'll be gone then...but my brother might captain my boat and may be interested. I'm fairly sure he'd fish out of Mich city though.

Full Moon Tournament - glad we are off and running. Fellas this is a first, fishing a night with a group of fellow fisherman.

Night fishing with clear water and a full moon just might be a lot of fun. For those of you that have not tried it please come on out. There will be others out there, we will all be on channel 68, and if the steelies are in, they will hit at night just like the kings and others.
This is as Jeff mentioned a gentlemen's tournament. So lets get together, have some fun, introduce others to the fun of fishing at night. Who knows you may have the winning lbs. to take all the money.

The other things fellas is we want to grow the site, try some new things, and bring all of you together, new friends, doing new things.
Jeff, we could probably have weigh in over by H dock area which is the southwest corner of the Portage Marina by the other shower/ bathroom building. There is plenty of parking on the river side by the spot for bank fisherman. I can open the bathrooms for anyone to use.

Yep we can have the weigh in where it makes the most sense. This is most certainly an informal and fun event and I think it will be alot of fun!

I am seeing if my cousin and son are available to go. I would say right now we are about 60% we will do it. Question does the captain only need to be a member of thesouthend.org or does everyone on the boat have to be?

Update: Son is in so we are about 75% now.

nah just the captain. I honestly hate to even make this a requirement, but the goal is to learn, meet each other, and have fun. Unfortunately the only way to do that is if were all on here talking about it.........as well as at the dock.

This is also hopefully the first of many small tournament outings in the future. I will create a section of the site dedicated to the results and lessons learned as well - such as what worked etc. Hopefully through it all we can make some friendships and better our craft at taking these fish.

I think it is a great idea Dirtyx - too often we are out at different times or days. this will be a nice way to meet others in the group and hopefully share some info along the way. Now if we could just get mother nature to take a cut of the entry fee to make it a perfect night LOL. No worries about the sign up - just wanted to know if I had to have the other two sign up even though they most likely would rarely log in.
