I have not been out Salmon fishing since I believe the beginning of June. We decided our best bet was to be lines in the water by dawn so had a really early start from Hammond (trailering to St Joe). We were the first truck in the parking lot and the river was smooth heading out (except that one floating tree that I didn't see until it was too late - good thing for no wake in the river). Go the lines out as planned with a smorgasbord of plugs, meat rig, spoons and Spin Dr/Flies. The early morning start was only successful in the fact that we had no traffic and no people at the launch to contend with. We setup in 100 FOW and trolled out to 175 and back. We managed one small laker first but it was already a while after sunrise. We then had a 10 color go off with a Silver Horde Ace Hi plug. It was not a total screamer but it didnt feel like a laker. Ended up it was a fat (ugly) old Coho. Took 20 minutes to get him into the boat since he wrapped himself up in the line, like coho's like to do. we trolled for another hour/90 minutes or so with no other action. We pulled lines at 9:45 EDT and called it a day. Not a really successful day but we got one nice coho (8 lbs) and a decent day on the lake for once; waves were just starting to kick up when we were heading in. Guys I talked to at the dock were skunked or one guy got 2 lakers and a coho. Not a bad day out since it has been almost 2 months since I was on the big lake (or any lake for that fact). BTW dropped the small fish hawk reader down before we started fishing and the thermo was at 70 FOW but one guy on the radio that had one trolling with said it was jumping all over the place - figured it was currents that was making the changes as he went.
