A ton of us have been to the seminars, whether recently or in the past. I would consider it common knowledge. Now if said guide told you something in confidence, thats a whole different scenario.

I will also note, that while I dont much jig for trout anymore due to the slipped boat, when I had a trailered boat I did it here and there. I was previously a bass guy and a half ounce jig head with garlic twin tail chompers worked amazingly well. I used mostly natural darker colors.

When Chompers first came out, I started dragging them in a rod holder while drifting at Sturgeon Bay, because my 6 yr old, now 30, was high maintenance. But, I started boating the majority of the fish as my dad fished spinnerbaits, cranks and 3" twisters tails. Turns out, that was Ned rig fishing. If things were slow, I'd take off the hula collar.

I always look forward to the fall cool down when you can get out and jig for Lakers. Using only walleye gear makes the fight that much more fun. We have always done well out of portage, but have also caught fish along the breakwalls by cal park.

Thanks for info. I too will be using my walleye rods. Thinking about hitting both of those spots this year.
That is if my boat gets done, but it should be, just waiting on the backordered kicker.

They come in pretty thick at MC too. I’ve caught them steelhead fishing south of RT 12. Depending on what’s going on in the lake, the post spawn fish seem to be really aggressive when they’re around. They’ll chase stuff like cranks and in-line spinners up in the water column and moving. The actively spawning fish seem to prefer the jigs if they bite at all, see a lot of them snagged. I’ve learned that if you’re seeing lakers dropping eggs, you can probably catch whitefish nearby.

3/4 oz gold blade baits u buy at bass pro Trick is have a 7ft rod, pull up fast 3 to 4 ft so the blade vibrates and let it sink to the bottom, then start again, only lift slowly for the 1st foot if you dont feel weight dothe same thing if u feel weight set the hook they always hit it on the way down so u seldom feel it

I have definitely caught a ton on blade baits too. They all work - some better than others at different times. Some days you have to experiment, other days anything works - no different than any fishing. I cant say I would have defined any specific bait as a go to, but I have not done it enough to be able to say so. I feel like listening to experts that blade baits are the way to go, but for me that generally was not my experience. Perhaps user error :)
