I am starting to put together a few lead core setups, and I'm wondering if there are brands you folks prefer or if there are brands that I should avoid. Does the brand even matter? I've seen a couple of people mention the Sufix 832 (I think). I generally use Power Pro on my small water rods, and I see they make a lead core line. Is it worth trying? I've also seen good reviews on a few commerce sites for other brands. What do you all recommend?

This is my first year spooling leadcore reels. I purchased the Sufix 832 27# leadcore and don't have any complaints after running it maybe a half dozen times or so. I'm sure someone with more LC experience will chime in. I've had real good experiences with all the Sufix braid I've used over the years so that was part of my decision.

I have only used suffix 832 and it has performed great. You can also get more LC on a smaller reel when compared to traditional/standard LC. It also has the benefit of getting a little deeper due to the smaller sheath / less water drag.

I think it has too many benefits to pass up.

Did you get 832 or Suffix Performance LC. As far as I know they only make the 832 in 12 & 18 lb.

I stand corrected. It was the Sufix Performance. I looked at the 832 but was hesitant about the 18lb break strength.

Good to know gents. I'll definitely go that route when I have to replace/upgrade my LC reels. The extra line capacity would be a huge plus.

Thank you, gents. I appreciate the input. I'll pick up some Sufix 832 in 18lb test and see how that goes. I do have a couple of small water rigs set up with Sufix mono, and have had no problems with those. With that size line, should I go with 20lb mono as my backing or will I need something smaller? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to get it right so I'm not spending extra cash to replace buying the wrong stuff when that money could be go toward my tracks and rod holders.

I personally use 50lb braid backing. Either should work. On a small reel, your going to get alot more braid on there if a fish has a big run.
