I just converted my shore lander trailer (Lund 1850)
from rollers to bunks. I went with ultimate bunk boards.
Pricey, but I think it’s going to be a good thing. I have only put in/took out one time since the conversion, but it was a much more pleasant experience for me. They are super slick.

One reason is because if you or one of your "helpers" unhooks the trailer while removing the straps at the rear, the boat isn't going to launch at the top of the ramp. I've seen it happen several times. (The good news is it's easier to winch it back on the trailer when that happens.)

More often, at ramps where power loading is allowed, with bunks and the trailer in the water, it's easy to power the boat ahead until the boat hits the bow roller, at which point the boat will just sit there until the winch strap is attached and snugged tight. I've seen boat on roller trailers be powered up to the bow roller, but when the engine is put in neutral, it rolls back. Either the boat then has to be winched manually back to the roller or the trailer repositioned.

I often launch and load my boat solo and it's quicker and easier to do it with bunk types.

I've read pros and cons for bunks/rollers for both aluminum and glass boats. Seems to me bunks would support the boat slightly better in most cases.

I too have launched solo , and found the roller bunks easy to control the boat off . I also found it easy to launch in shallow water and was able to winch it back on . the rollers being , slippery , lets say , Ive heard that bunk s don't let you winch up , as easy . THATS why I asked about the Bunk Slides to make them a little more slick .

THANKS for ALL Replies

Sorry, been away a bit. Here are a couple pics of the bunk boards i put on. For me, it’s easier to launch and boat the trailer as I often have novices with me ( so I’m doing it myself).
They are super slick, and should outlast the rest of the trailer. I got the mounting hardware off of Amazon.

I had bought a kit to cover my bunk boards but had worried about my painted bottom on my Alumacraft.

These “ultimate Bunkboards” are solid plastic material. It’s like a plastic 2x4 with an aluminum track on the bottom. The hardware comes with it. It does not scratch the paint on my Lund.
