Since the Coho Classic was in dire straights due to our garbage weather, we went to Maxinkuckee today. Havent been there since I was young doing bass tournaments. We were going for anything and everything - a day to play. Well it was crap. The winds sucked and blue jay skies did not help. We ended up with 8 gills, a pumpkinseed, a small largemouth, and a rock bass - all caught in the back channels. Could not get anything going in the main lake at all. Worked deep flats, shallow flats, the drops, rock, sand, weedbeds...........we beat it hard.

Anyone else fish it with any comments or suggestions that fishes out there?

So I assume the Classic was cancelled today? I don't know that tomorrow will be much better and if it is who knows where the fish will be. This weather sucks!!

Last year on June 6th myself and Fish Head went to Maxi and had a good day. Sunny 82 degree air temp. forgot to record water temp oops! Moderate wind perfect for drift fishing. We fished from 9:30 to 1:30 and caught 8 smallmouth most were 15-16 inch , the largest was 18". All caught drifting with large minnows in 10-14 feet water on the marina side of the lake. Big Thank You to Fish Head for introducing me to The Southend. Good fishing to you all......

Yea we probably should have targeted bass. The species we were primarily after were eyes, perch, crappie, and gills.

Me and Maxi have a love hate relation ship. I love the lake but hate to fish it lol. Parking sucks, one of the hardest inland lakes to fish, but I have had some really awesome days out of there but most of the time I just come home wondering why I didn't just drive to St. Joseph instead lol

ok Jums - awesome days fishing for what? :)

With lack of good water within a close drive, I am trying to find a place that can be a go to when the big lake is angry. I know the bass fishing can be really good, but can anything else? I know there are big fish otherwise, I just wonder about overall quantity (gills, crappie, eyes, etc)

Perch can be real real real hot at times, Crappie and walleye at night or before sun set can be awesome, Huge Gills. It's a real good multi species lake once you learn to fish it. Countour Elite can be your friend on that lake and has helped me target specific areas of that lake since there is so many humps and super deep holes.
