Hoping to go back for a weekend in mid May, or wait until June, July, Aug when school is out and go week days.

Couple questions about mid May, and then the summer months...

When we chartered at end of June, we went into Canadian waters. Is that to just find more/easier fishing? We are not going that far in our boat.

Is there plenty of fish around between Monroe, MI and say Huron, OH a few miles out at most, that we can have good chance of catching our limits of eater fish at least? Not needing the big hawgs so many want.

Same trolling program with Bandits and such? Is setting up for crawler harness needed for best chances?

We can jig, but prefer trolling just to cover more water. Might take wife, so trolling is easier.

Thanks for any additional help. Would like to make the trip over a couple times a regular thing eventually when we can get things figured out.

In May the crawler bite starts you can troll or drift them with bottom bouncers..... there's fish all around the islands and the south passage.  I heard guys are already running spoons too.

I'm heading out there this weekend ( May 1st)
and I'll report back.  I plan on pulling Bandits and I have some new Rapala Goldminers to try out. I'm also going to run two flatline Jet divers with spoons on the inside just to test out that spoon bite.

The Western Basin is good earlier in the year, but it is shallower. The water warms faster and the Walleye migrate to the Central Basin, then the Eastern Basin. After 4th of July, you'll be hard pressed for a catch unless you go past Huron. I've fished the Central/Eastern Basin out of Conneaut, Ohio anywhere from late June all the way through September and have always limited out. Somewhere online, there's a short video of the migratory pattern, showing the timeline so you have an idea where they are anytime during the year. Good Luck and tight lines!
