Yeah, its hard to make baloney and cracker sandwiches and land fish at the same time. There is always too much going on the "Plane to Sea" to make sandwiches. On the Kellianne there is usually 5 or 10 minutes between fish fights.

Being retired is going to be great I hope. I hope to see and meet a bunch more of you Southenders in the near future. As long as I am able I will fish with you guys every chance I get. This avocation has become a big part of my life and I thank all of you again who have went out of their way to help me along. Great bunch of guys.

The buck had all the signs of being in rut. The big swollen neck, black hocks, tree bark in its rack, and it smelled like it had been swimming in a pool of piss. He was pretty well rank. In just a few weeks time he would run off a least 20 or 25 pounds. I got him in his prime.

Don,
I tried to copy but wasn't able to. Did you see any pictures yet of the big buck shot yesterday in Hartford Michigan? What a brute, scaled in at 430lbs.

No I did not see any pix. I will look around. Can't imagine one like that. I have been deer hunting for 40 years and I have seen 2 maybe 3 deer that would weigh over 250 dressed. I got bow shots at one of those and missed him twice. I almost hung myself that evening. I have a deer biology book by Len Lee Rue that he signed for me at a Bowhunter Nationals event and he has pictures of bucks in Michigan and Iowa that topped 400 pounds. A giant Iowa buck weighed 440 pounds dressed looks like shetland pony with a rocking chair on his head. There is even records of a deer in Louisiana and in Georgia that have field dressed weights of 314 pounds and 355 pounds respectively. I know this, getting one out the woods like that is a cause for a heart attack. The one I got was more than I wanted to drag out.

I would think that there are many whitetails that top 250 dressed that are taken each year up near the Lake Michigan shores. I would think most of the deer would be of the Canadian subspecies. Most of the southern deer around here are from deer that came from VA and PA. Have any of you guys up there done any good yet?

I googled the story and what I saw is the deer is real the picture is real but the story is kind of a hoax. The deer was actually killed in Wisc. at a high fence operation in 2009. The photo keeps showing up each season. Still you are right that thing is as big as a 3 year old bull elk.
